Parker Palmer | Pain + Paradox

Well, in the spirit of making "space between" a platform for sharing (what I feel is) helpful content for your journey I am sharing another video. And, as I seem to be somewhat of al Parker Palmer devotee, I just so happen to be sharing another video I featuring him (source: 30 Good Minutes).

Personally, I like to see+hear content when learning so I find the videos helpful. As a caveat, let me say that I don't intend to give standing ovations or unreserved endorsements to all content I share here. I do, however, think it worthwhile and hopefully provoking to your head, hearts, and hands.

That being said, take a look-see...and listen-hear.

Parker Palmer | Bill Moyers Interview

I continue the blog-salute to Parker Palmer with this video. Parker Palmer's depth of insight into inner-life (personal) and outer-life (social) realities and his ability to articulate these insights clearly with conviction and compassion are valuable gifts.

Take a moment to watch this video interview with Bill Moyers. FYI, there are many more great audio and video clips of Parker Palmer and Bill Moyers available in the form of Pod+Vod-casts. Do an iTunes search or click their names (above) to get to their respective websites.

Watch, Comment, Share.

Haiti Earthquake Relief | Samaritan's Purse

My apologies as this blog jumps a bit back-and-forth from books, to thoughts, to media links, to world events like the earthquake in Haiti. I realize that if you are somewhere in front of a tv or other media outlet you are likely continually being informed by images and stories from Haiti and opportunities to support relief and aid efforts.

As I am currently in neighboring Dominican Republic (D.R.), it feels especially pressing as we consider how to support our Haitian brothers and sisters--both here in the D.R. (food, shelter, supplies) and in Haiti (potential team being sent from our local Haitian Ministry to connect with and give support & aid to family and friends there).

With this is mind, I wanted to link you here to Samaritan's Purse as one avenue of response as you consider supporting efforts on the ground in Haiti. Click the image above to partner in this way.

Free E-book Download Here | Gary Thomas

On the theme of "soul" books I wanted to link you to another author, Gary Thomas. I currently have my nose (and brain) in his book, Sacred Pathways: Discover Your Souls Path to God. Now, I am cautious to when there are conversations about soul that seem disembodied (so-to-speak). We are living souls and I want to be clear as distinctions are made when speaking more directly about soul that they not take a dualistic bent separating spiritual + physical. Anywho, you are all holistic folk so that is preaching to the choir perhaps.

Ok, so as I have been enjoying this book and was snooping on Thomas' website and saw that you can (as of this point) still download a free e-copy of his new book, Pure Pleasure. Click the link
HERE to check it out + download you free copy.

PS: In addition to the various media + print resources you'll be linked too, you can also get a great Podcast of Gary speaking at Seattle Pacific University on Marriage: Soul Mate vs. Sole Mate. Now, I'm not married but, nonetheless, found it informative and insightful...tucked away for some day:)

Parker Palmer | Tragic Gap

Here at "in a space between" I like to post content that seems to engage in a meaningful way as I and others live in this space. That may read as a very vague statement. The truth is we are living in a space between so this is a platform to share what is both happening on this space-between-living and what ideas, images, and information may help other engage this space between in a helpful and hopeful way.

On author whose words I have come to respect and receive as wise counsel is Parker Palmer. His books Courage to Teach, Let Your Life Speak, To Know as We Are Known, and a Hidden Wholeness (longer list but these are the ones I've been in) are filled with deep insights that, generally speaking, point to how we can live as whole people when we live in and create safe places for True Self (soul) to emerge. So often we silence the True Self and live divided lives because it seems "safer" to do so. The tensions and challenges of living in the space between often leads to so much divided living--we have backstage lives and then on-stage lives.

Take a look+listen to Parker here...

Earthquake in Haiti

Today I arrived safely (yet red-eyed) in the Dominican Republic. As we were getting out of the car at the house everyone let out a unanimous, "Whoa, did you feel that?!...are you feeling that?!" I put one hand on the door frame of the house (not for stability but just to get a sense of the movement) as it felt the ground was slowly swaying under my feet and I looked in the house to the the lightfixture shifting back and forth. It was really a weird sensation to essentially fell the earth moving below you...and around you.

Here in the barrio everything seems to be ok but, as I'm sure you've seen on the news, Haiti sustained more serious damage as the epicenter of the 7.0 quake (and aftershocks).

Be in prayer for Haiti--a country that has so many challenges at the "best of times"--and the many people impacted by this earthquake.

War Photographers | Video Interview

Every photographer has her/his heros (I think so...well, I do). Two "hero" photographers' work whom I appreciate, admire, and am inspired by are James Nachtwey & Yuri Kozyrev (is this a grammatically correct sentence?!)

I saw this video on Charlie Rose and wanted to share it here. For more on James Nacthwey visit VII Photo HERE and for Yuri Kozyrev visit NOOR Images HERE.

Ok, enjoy the interview...
