Locrio

So locrio is this amazing Dominican dish of rice prepared with meat or vegetables.  Take a peek at some recipes at www.dominicancooking.com.  Wanda says you'll know it's ready when the spoon stands up.  Enjoy.

Campamento | 08

Time for Camp!  In the DR that happens to be February.  So, with a host of locals, a team of Canadians, and over a hundred energetic children Campamento 2008 was underway this month under the banner of Poderoso in Oracion  (Powerful in Prayer).  Campers explored this theme through praise, teaching, cabin time with friends and leaders, great food, lots of treats, art, and splashing in the pool (yup, it's that warm:)--a  time to enjoy friends and share in learning more about Jesus.
While it seemed that a bit of a plague (ok, colds and sore throats) descended on many of the camp leaders and visiting Canadians the camp was a real blessing to be a part of.  Camper cabins represented different countries: Haiti, Dominican Republic, Canada, China, Mexico, Colombia, and Kenya.  Special attention was given toward understanding these countries and how we the campers could join in God's work through prayer for the people of these nations.

Los Pomos

I enjoy following people around--especially with a camera.  To see their world and see how it can be captured...at least insofar as photos can "capture" one's world.  Over the past month I have been joining the church planting team as they visit friends in various homes another barrio, los Pomos.  We pull up on motorcycles or mopeds (pasolas)...or foot, receive warm greetings, are quickly served coffee, and share in life-conversation: learnings, questions, ideas.  At one home it may look like a Bible study, at another it is installing a water purifier, and at another it may simply listening to a friend share their heart.  Whatever shape the time may take--the vibe (the heart) is that people would encounter Jesus, see an expression of his love, grace and grow in understanding of what it means to find your story in His--what He has done and is doing.

DRIME

DRIME is a ministry (a crew of great people) with a heart to see people encounter Christ.  Based in Vancouver, Canada, DRIME also has teams in Kenya and Brazil, and has trained teams who have ministered in numerous cities around the world.

Through choreographed drama backgrounded by music, DRIME presents the gospel both visually and in conversation.  This ministry has been very important in my life.  My involvement has been used by God to shape my understanding of who He is, to shape my faith, open my eyes to others and new places around the globe.

DRIME is taking teams to Paraguay & Benin this year.  Visit drime.com for more info.

These pictures are from a recent presentation here in the DR.

clay mask

Hmmm...not sure what to say.  Met this lady the other day and I liked her clay mask. To be honest I'm not too sure if she had skin-wellness in mind...but, nonetheless, a nice mask.

foto class

The photo crew is back together with some new additions.  Here's the crew:  Tracy, Fey, Alejandro, Bertico, Dani, Derek, and Bau.  On Sundays we talk photography and on Mondays we get out and shoot.  Whether talking or shooting we are exploring the photographic medium & the art of seeing and storytelling.  Come back to see some of the crew's images.  For now here are some images of the crew.
